The World Council of Churches advocates for children's well-being through a variety of projects at local, national and global levels. Being present – and often the gathering point – in rural and urban communities, churches have a unique position to influence society at all levels, from parents and school teachers to decision makers in public and private sectors.
How can churches use their influence to improve children’s lives?
🦠 Churches' support for children during the COVID-19 pandemic
The ”Churches’ Commitments to Children” support engagement of churches in 3 areas: Child Protection, Child Participation and Climate Justice initiatives with Children. The development and implementation of “Churches’ Commitments to Children” is supported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) through a global WCC-UNICEF partnership, with a focus on ending violence against children and climate justice.

HOW TO JOIN THE PLATFORM
The ”Churches’ Commitments to Children” document is a result of a broad consultative process among member churches and partners about the question “How can churches use their influence to improve children’s lives”? The process was initiated by the Commission of Churches on International Affairs and included theologians, child rights experts and children themselves. “Churches’ Commitments to Children” is an open invitation and living resource for the ecumenical commitment to child wellbeing.
If you would like to learn more about the Commitments and join efforts to improve child-wellbeing through churches, please contact the WCC Senior Advisor on children’s rights. Please do let us know if you would like to share your experience or tools with other churches. Resources already available to support churches’ efforts for child wellbeing are presented in the following overview.
