This workshop will focus on how a new civil rights movement has emerged in the United States led by immigrant youth. There are more than 2 million undocumented immigrant students and young people, who were brought to the United States as children and have been denied basic rights including access to higher education, voting rights, travel, and work authorization. They have lived under constant fear of deportation. The immigrant youth movement has embraced the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King and have launched civil disobedience campaigns, hunger strikes, and sit-ins in the U.S. Senate, inspiring millions of people throughout the United States.
