Resonating with the theme of the day ‘water of life’, religious leaders participate in a brief, symbolic act where each representative ‘shares’ water into a common vessel. The act reminds people both of the value of water and the various conflicts surrounding the sharing of water and other natural resources today as well as the spiritual significance of water in various religious traditions as a symbol of cleansing, justice and peace. The visible act of religious leaders sharing water communicates the commitment of leaders to come together for the cause of justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
